Nina Cen

Nina is a Project Engineer in Training who joined the WaterSMART team in 2022. She is a recent graduate of the University of Alberta’s Civil Engineering program (Environmental Specialization).
During her time in the co-op program focusing on Water Distribution and Transmission at Epcor Utilities, she gained experience interfacing with clients and conducting research, data analysis, and hydraulic modeling, and reviewing engineering drawings and materials testing. At Epcor, she also assisted in the City of Edmonton’s new Design and Construction standards for water main flushing and acceptance testing.
Nina is also highly skilled in industry-relevant software, including the Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, ArcGIS, LaTeX, AutoCAD, Revit, MicroStation, WaterGEMS, StormCAD, Synergi Water, HEC-HMS, and HEC-RAS.
In addition to her degree work, Nina is an active volunteer at the University of Alberta, where as a Dean’s research student, she further refines her client relationship and research skills. She also works as the Social Media Specialist for the Water Network, where she helps drive key messaging, assists decision-makers in the water sector to address complex challenges, and provides insights for Canada’s water sector.
At WaterSMART, Nina is responsible for providing meeting facilitation and support, and for preparing formal meeting minutes for various projects within the oil and gas sector and resource industry. She also prepares applications for the provincial Digital Regulatory Assurance System (DRAS) under the Water Act, develops educational materials for students, and provides support to industry organizations like COSIA and CRIN to facilitate workshops and compile reports on industry innovations.
