Kayla Garvey

Kayla is a Professional Environmental Scientist who joined the WaterSMART team in 2022, where she focuses on the Public Sector, Agri-Food, and Watershed Management lines of business in Alberta.
Kayla completed a Bachelor of Science with a specialization in Environmental Earth Science from the University of Alberta, and she is a Geoscientist-in-Training with APEGA. She also holds a Master’s degree in Water Security (M.W.S.) from the University of Saskatchewan where her research focused on hydrology, water policy, and integrated water resource management.
She has also developed technical skills through coursework, including hydrological, hydrogeological, and climate data management, as well as analysis and modelling utilizing MATLAB software and Excel.
Prior to joining WaterSMART, Kayla worked as researcher in water security, which broadened her technical skill set in research, organization, and analysis of academic and grey literature to highlight and summarize the links between industry practices and major threats to the global water supply.
At WaterSMART, Kayla is responsible for the facilitation and board management for the Cooperative Stormwater Management Initiative (CSMI), consisting of three municipalities and the Western Irrigation District developing and executing a sustainable regional stormwater management system. She also provides project support for Agriculture’s Water Future Project, assessing the implementation of an AWS in a comprehensive agri-food supply chain.
Kayla is passionate about water security and resource management and is excited to continue contributing to a more sustainable future.
