Randy Paquette
B.Sc., EPt
Randy is an Environmental Scientist who joined the WaterSMART team in 2021. Randy primarily works on watershed management projects, focused on collaborating with water users from across basins. Randy has integrated his expertise in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and mass-balance models, including the South Saskatchewan River Operational Model (SSROM), to improve collaborative basin planning and decision-making.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from the University of Alberta with specialization in freshwater ecology, integrated resource management, and environmental policies. He also holds certificates in Sustainability and Building Capacity for Reconciliation. While pursuing his degree at the University of Alberta, he contributed to several studies that focused on freshwater ecology in relation to wildlife and habitat management, and streambank bioengineering/restoration activities. He furthered his education to become a certified Canadian Aquatic Biomonitoring Network (CABIN) Field Technician, a nationally recognized freshwater biological community-based program for assessing stream quality and health.
At WaterSMART, Randy specializes in water user engagement and workshop facilitation/execution, collaborating on sustainable water management. Leveraging his comprehensive understanding of the SSROM, Randy can combine the expertise of water users with mass-balance models, like the SSROM, to evaluate sustainable water management opportunities. Randy is also is responsible for producing high-quality GIS spatial analyses and mapping outputs to clients, providing visual aids to support decision-making.
