Terry Mah

Ph.D

Terry joined WaterSMART as a Special Advisor in 2016, bringing his broad, international industry experience including more than 20 years of leadership in the environmental sector. He focuses on delivering technology, innovation, services and practices to support sustainability, resilience, and circular economics around water, energy and resources.

After studying at the University of Calgary and graduating from the University of British Columbia with a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Microbiology, and a Ph.D. in Engineering, Terry held a number of executive positions in biotech, technology, and environmental services organizations. This includes Veolia, the world’s largest environmental services firm, where he was Chief Operating Officer of the water technology division in parts of Europe, Asia and the Middle East, as well as the acting Chief Executive Officer and President of Veolia’s North American water, energy and waste business.

The experience gained from supporting communities and industries to understand their resource challenges, align interests, leverage innovation, and design and implement manageable solutions to support environmental stewardship provided Terry with the unique ability to develop practical solutions to manage complex environmental challenges. As a result, he has been invited to provide keynote addresses on the topics of sustainability and putting the circular economy to work to several prominent groups including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation.

Terry brings this comprehensive operational expertise to the WaterSMART team, where he assists clients in developing sustainable water and resource strategies.
