Aaron Duke

PE, BCEE

Aaron Duke traces his path into environmental engineering back to the first grade, when his family moved from Ann Arbor, Michigan, to just outside of Seattle, Washington. Aaron says that growing up surrounded by an abundance of water, trees, and mountains—along with the occasional orca sighting—was his original inspiration.

“My dream was to work outside in the water and in the forests,” says Aaron. “That’s what started it, a connection to nature and wanting to protect the environment.”

Aaron earned his bachelor’s degree in civil and environmental engineering along with his master’s degree in environmental engineering, both from the University of Michigan. After graduating, he spent five years on the water solutions team at an engineering company focused on industrial and municipal treatment, energy, and the environment.

Since joining Hazen in 2004, Aaron has established himself as a leader in water treatment plant evaluation, design, and optimization, with specialties in drinking water residuals and chemical treatment and clarification.

As Hazen began expanding its Pacific Northwest presence in recent years, Aaron was presented with the opportunity to move back to the Seattle area and establish Hazen’s standing as a trusted advisor to clients. Aaron now serves as the operations manager for Hazen’s Seattle location.

Outside of work, music plays an important role in Aaron’s life, whether he’s attending concerts, playing trumpet or guitar, or exchanging favorite bands and tracks with his wife, son, and daughter. When he isn’t listening to music or reading his favorite science fiction and fantasy books, Aaron can often be found hiking, camping, and taking in the natural Seattle landscapes that first inspired his professional path.
